Rebekah adds world titles to British success

REBEKAH Wagnell has just returned home from the trip of a lifetime as she picked up five medals at the 2011 World Transplant Games.

The 15-year-old had a life saving kidney transplant in 2006 after suffering chronic renal failure from birth.

She competes at The British Transplant Games every 12 months and this year was selected to represent the UK at the World Transplant Games in Gothenburg, Sweden.

In the swimming competition Rebekah brought home two gold medals for the 50m breastroke and medley team relay, and took silver in the 50m freestyle, 50m fly and 50m backstroke.

Rebekah said: “I had a fantastic time – it was an amazing experience to compete with transplant recipients from across the world.”

She hopes that her success will help raise awareness of the benefits of organ donation and transplantation.

Proud dad Paul said: “Rebekah did really well at the last British Transplant Games, so was selected to represent Great Britain in Sweden. And she’ll go even further if she’s picked to compete at the next World Games in two years – it’s in South Africa.

“I want to thank her coaches at Bletchley Swimming Club, Alison Powell and Phil Powell who have supported Rebekah throughout her training enabling her to achieve her success. And also thanks to Bletchley Leisure Centre for their generosity in allowing Rebekah to use their facilities.”

The action keeps coming thick and fast for Rebekah with this year’s British Transplant Games coming up in Belfast in August.
