Bahrain and Saudi Arabia to cooperate on organ transplant

Source: Khaleej Times

MANAMA - Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have agreed to promote organ transplant cooperation.

A team from Salmaniya Medical Complex’s Yusuf Khalil Almoayyed Nephrology and Kidney Transplant Centre recently received a Saudi Organ Transplant Centre delegation and discussed activating a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) organ donation programme, particularly including brain dead patients.

The two sides discussed activating organ transplant cooperation between both centres for the sake of GCC patients suffering from renal failure.

Under the scheme, all the public and public hospitals in Bahrain would be sent a circular urging them to quickly report cases of brain dead patients and psychologically prepare their relatives to ensure early organ donation.

The cooperation will also be stepped up to this end with the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital and the King Hamad General University Hospital.
