CTMC honored by Texas Organ Sharing Alliance

San Marcos — Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has been honored by the Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (TOSA) with the “Humanitarian Service Award.”

The award is presented to a hospital that makes it possible for donor families to honor their loved ones by giving the “gift of life.”

The award commemorates 35 years of community partnerships and professional services in developing a better donation community.

”We are pleased to be recognized for our role in saving lives through organ donation,” Lana Cameron, vice president for nursing and chief nursing officer, said. “CTMC has had a supportive relationship with TOSA for many years and it is an honor to receive an award from an organization commemorating 35 years of giving the gift of life.”

The award, which symbolizes a tear drop, represents both the tears of sadness shed by the donor family over the loss of a loved one and the tears of gratitude, thankfulness, appreciation and recognition from the recipients who now count the number of blessings instead of the numbers of days they have left because a donor family valued life enough to want to share it with others in need, CTMC officials said.

TOSA is one of 58 non-profit 501 (c)(3), independent, federally-designated Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) in the United States dedicated to educating and providing organ donation and recovery services to families wishing to donate and to those waiting for a life-saving organ transplant.
