From transplant trauma to charity lauder

Source: Observer Citizen

A MAJOR organ transplant survivor who is making the most of her new lease of life will this week embark on a marathon march to raise vital funds for the hospital that saved her life.

Natasha Rogers underwent a heart and lungs transplant ten years ago and has subsequently pledge ‘not to waste her new life’ and to show others that being an organ donor ‘can make a big difference to people.’

Determined to celebrate her decade of wellbeing, Natasha and her family have organised a wide range of events this year to generate cash for good causes and the total so far stands at £7,500.

In February the family put on a festive Valentines Day disco, before four of the fundraising team took to London’s streets for the London marathon – with all monies raised going to the British Heart Foundation.

While in June, the family organised a special concert to celebrate the actual anniversary of Natasha’s transplant.

They now hope this week’s event will add to the £1,500 from June so they can make a substantial doantion to Harefield Hospital – where Natasha underwent the procedure.

Looking ahead to the 80-mile Milton Keynes to Harefield trek, which sees Natasha and chums march through Leighton on Thursday, the Northampton lass spoke of a mixture of excitement and apprehension at the challenge ahead.

Natasha told the LBO: “So far, I have just had to turn up at the events, but this next event I know will be more difficult and at times very hard – but I am determined to do it and very excited at the prospect of it all.

“The final leg on the Sunday, takes us up to Harefield Hospital in time for the hospital’s annual Fun Run/Walk which will be great as I enjoy walking and am so looking forward to this event.

“The public have been very good with supporting our efforts in the past and hopefully that will continue this week.”

Natasha has set up an online an online sponsor page where wellwishers can donate at virginmoneygiving.com by searching for ‘Natasha Rogers.’

She can also be contacted on 01604 406431 or by emailing tasha.rogers17@virginmedia.com

Natasha, who has also been nominated to be a torchbearer for the Olympic Flame, added: “The hospital performed the operation to save my life, but without the selfless gift from the donor family, my life could not have been saved.

“If we can influence others to join the organ donor register, then it will all be worthwhile.”
