If you’ve ever wanted to meet an Olympian, now’s your chance. Chris Klug, 2002 Olympic bronze medal winner in the parallel giant slalom at the Salt Lake City Winter games, is this year’s First American State Bank Fitness Festival Grand Marshal. Klug will share grand marshal duties with USA running Hall of Champions inductee Creigh Kelley at this year’s festival, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, at Crescent Park in Greenwood Village.
From multiple World Cup triumphs to 11 U.S. National titles and three Olympic appearances, including his celebrated bronze win just 18 months after receiving a life-saving liver transplant, make Klug a perfect addition to the Fitness Festival line up.
“I want my participation in the Fitness Festival to help show youngsters the positive possibilities in life,” Klug said.
Since then, Klug has formed his own nonprofit, the Chris Klug Foundation, dedicated to promoting organ and tissue donation.
And positive possibilities is a perfect message for a festival that raises money for the Community Asset Project – a program that helps kids in the Cherry Creek School District develop skills for a healthier lifestyle as a deterrent to negative behavior such as alcohol, other drug use and violent behavior. During the past 10 years, the Festival has raised more than $650,000 to support CAP.
Join Klug on September 10 for a morning of fabulous food, great fun and a fantastic run at the First American State Bank Fitness Festival. The Festival includes the officially timed Kaiser Permanente 5K run/walk and 1K fitness walk, food samplings from 14 of the top restaurants in the area, entertainment, silent auction, prizes and lots of family fun. The food alone makes it an event to remember and one of the “Best After Parties in the Nation!”
