Bledsoe teens death shines light on organ donation

News Channel 9 | Chattanooga News | Jana Barnello

A Bledsoe County high school player's death is already helping save lives. 17-year-old Kainen Boring died Sunday when his family took him off life support, but not before donating his organs.

Kainen suffered a traumatic brain injury on September 8, and was declared brain dead a week later. His family says it stemmed from a preexisting condition that was made worse when he took a helmet to helmet hit during football practice.

"we had nothing to give any warning that this might be going on," said Boring's uncle, Kendall Smith.

Smith told us Kainen's mom made the decision to donate his organs, and save other lives. It's a decision that's becoming more common, according to Kim Hingers with Tennessee Donor Services. Hingers says Boring could save up to eight lives through donating his organs.
