Grieving relatives take pride from Andy Pownell's gift of life after his death

FOR the grieving relatives of Andy Pownell, their sadness is mingled with pride – his tragic death has given the gift of life to dozens of people.

The gardener, who died suddenly in July of a suspected massive brain haemorrhage at the age of just 39, had donated his entire body for transplants.

Andy’s heart, lungs, kidneys, liver and pancreas went to patients needing a transplant. And his skin, bones, tendons and cartilage were used for skin grafts and joint replacement surgery.His sister Jayne, a 47-year-old nurse, said: “We had no idea Andy was on the organ donor register and had agreed to let them use everything they could.
