Alex Pangman was a perfect fit for Sarnia's 8th annual Jazz and Blues in the Village event over the weekend.
Not only because she's known as 'Canada's Sweetheart of Swing,' but because the young artist has a very personal connection to the cause.
"This is such a great event," said the Toronto singer, who was born with cystic fibrosis, and received a double lung transplant in 2008 that ultimately saved her life. "Even if just one of these people leave here and sign a donor card, it can save multiple lives. It's pretty amazing."
Pangman said the transplant "revived" her life, and the lives of those around her, right down to the simplest things.
"I can sing, I can ride a horse, and I can change the sheets – something I couldn't do without an oxygen tank," she said.
More than 1,500 people attended the two-day event at McGibbon Park, which included performances by the popular David Rotundo Band, Denise Pelley, Guido Basso, Erin McCallum, and Ottawa-based trio MonkeyJunk.
The volunteer-run event serves as a fundraiser for the Sarnia Organ Donor Awareness group (SODA) — and has been entertaining and educating crowds since its inception in the Mitton Village back in 2004.
