KLAX TV
CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital to host 3rd annual Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) Softball Tournament

CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in partnership with LOPA will host the 3rd annual LOPA Softball Tournament, Saturday, September 17, 2011 beginning at 8:00 a.m. The tournament will be held at the Pineville Ward 9 SportsPlex Baseball Fields (3311 Donahue Ferry Road).

“The goal of the LOPA softball tournament is to bring awareness to the importance of organ donation,” said Billy McRae, Nurse Manager, CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. “The tournament was created to ‘celebrate the gift of life’ through organ and tissue donations. We hope to heighten the importance of organ and tissue donations and encourage the community to register as an organ and tissue donor.”

Lynn Herrington, Hospital Resource Coordinator/Family Advocate for the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency, noted an increase in the donor registry. Herrington stated “In the first quarter of 2010, Louisiana ranked #1 in the nation for donor designations through the Office of Motor Vehicles.”
