New Jersey Today
NEW PROVIDENCE – NJ Sharing Network Foundation’s 13th Annual Golf and Tennis Classic features more than just the usual prizes and banquet – this year it welcomes Lenore Ford and Peter Rooney to its Board of Trustees.
The foundation, invigorated by its Inaugural Share NJ 5k Walk/Run this spring that raised $450,000, has “one of the most engaged, productive boards I have encountered,” says Executive Director Elisse Glennon.
“The foundation’s momentum is built in its board, whose energy drives our ability to raise funds in support of organ and tissue donation,” says Glennon. “Our most recent additions, Peter Rooney and Lenore Ford both also sit on our golf and tennis planning committee. Ford has served on the planning committee for several years and has advocated for transplantation for more than 15 years. Both have intimate connections with organ donation.
Ford, a resident of Morristown, became interested in organ and tissue donation when her husband received a liver transplant. In addition to her work for NJ Sharing Network, she has volunteered for over 35 years with groups such as Overlook Hospital, Summit Library, Reeves Reed Arboretum, local churches and schools in Summit and surrounding areas.
Rooney, of Ogilvy CommonHealth Worldwide, and resident of Mendham, joined the board in June. His involvement with donation and the Foundation was spurred by the loss of his father, who was waiting for an organ transplant.
The Annual Golf and Tennis Classic attracts support from throughout New Jersey. This year’s event on Monday, Sept. 26, at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, also features a tennis tournament, demonstration and clinic. Plainfield Country Club, home of the 2011 Barclay’s, is consistently top-ranked in the US and has been enjoyed by club members and guests for nearly 100 years.
