Northern Ontario Railroad Museum opens Garden of Life, Canada

Source: Northern Ontario Railroad Museum

Garden of Life Update

The space highlights the five senses and encompasses a six foot waterfall which falls gently into a large pond surrounded by plants all nestled within a natural fieldstone patio with stone benches for contemplation. The sense of hearing is the waterfall; the sense of smell the fragrant plants; the sense of touch is the texture of leaves, stones and rocks; and the sense of taste will be herbs. The entire area is protected by a new wrought iron perimeter fence and the chosen plants and sod are expected to be delivered soon.

The museum would like to thank all of the volunteers who have dedicated countless hours towards the completion of this project as well as the Sudbury Horticultural Society and Linda and Wayne Hugli for their invaluable advice on plant selection as well as the donation of a tree. The Trillium Gift of Life Network has made a considerable donation towards the project, Hollandia has donated lock stone for the pathways and the Sudbury Irish Heritage Club has been most supportive.

Did you know that one donor could save the lives of up to eight people? It is hoped that visitors to the garden will be encouraged to register their consent. The official opening of the Garden of Life will take place on Saturday, September 10th 2011 at 1:00pm. The museum invites everyone to come out and support the event. There will be several guest speakers on hand sharing their stories and explaining why organ and tissue donation is a cause worthy of support.
