On Saturday, friends, family and those who never got the opportunity to know her will gather for the Amanda Westermier Foundation Memorial Youth & Family Rodeo at the Lazy E Arena near Guthrie.
The sheet was part of the debris that fell into a field near her family's home north of Luther after the May 3, 1999, tornado outbreak.
The Westermiers found a canceled check, a playing card, and a baseball card, but Mandy's discovery was the most notable — and still is, more than eight years after her death.
On April 19, 2003, Mandy was competing in the Heart of Oklahoma Youth Rodeo in Harrah. The 14-year-old was thrown from her horse in a collision with another horse outside the arena. She was flown to OU Medical Trauma Center and underwent surgery to try to relieve pressure caused from swelling on her brain. A second surgery also was performed with no success. Mandy was in the hospital for six days.
