Could you give your heart away?

Reportage

Despite Australia being a world leader in successful transplant outcomes it still has one of the lowest organ donation rate. Lucy Cormack reports.

It’s a frightening thought, to be asked to give away the vital organs of our loved ones.

But for some Australians this is a real situation and one that has marked the very worst day of their lives.

Registered nurse and midwife, Holly Northam is conducting her PhD study into this very issue and finding out why less than 60 per cent of families are in fact saying yes.

Australia is recognised as a world leader for successful transplant outcomes yet it has one of the lowest donation rates in the developed world.
