Pellie Thomas, the business office director and the organ and tissue donor drive coordinator for York General Healthcare Services (YGHS), has been working with a team from YGHS to produce and promote a video about organ and tissue donation.
The video is part of the statewide campaign by the Nebraska Organ Recovery System and the Nebraska Hospital Association.
In the video, people from the York area tell their stories.
There are stories from organ recipients, families of organ recipients, dialysis nurses and finally, Pellie’s story of being the parent of an organ donor.
In June of 2009, Pellie’s stepdaughter, Michaela Thomas, was killed in a car crash when her car was hit by another driver driving more than 60 mph.
She died on the life flight en route to the hospital.
