THE parents of a three-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a train on Monday have been lauded as an inspiration for making the courageous decision to donate their son’s organs.Three-year-old Ethan died in hospital on Tuesday afternoon after suffering severe injuries to his head, chest and abdomen.
His devastated mother told a press conference on Wednesday of her and her partner’s decision to donate their little boy’s organs, to give other critically-ill children a second chance at life.
Their decision is expected to save the lives of some of the 1566 people currently waiting for an organ and tissue transplant.
Transplant Australia chief executive officer Chris Thomas said the family’s decision to share their experience with the public would help more Australians understand the importance of having a discussion about organ and tissue donation with their own families.
