STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — One year ago, Matthew Rosiello and his family didn’t know what was in store for the 22-year-old. Born with a rare liver disease, the Prince’s Bay resident’s liver was failing and his future was uncertain.
The Island DJ who had beaten the odds and lived with a defective liver up until that point was in serious need of a transplant. But the waiting list in New York had around 1,700 people on it; it was a wait the family was afraid Rosiello couldn’t afford.
“We were basically watching Matthew die,” said his mother, Randy Rosiello. “He was losing weight rapidly and was down to 86 pounds from his usual 113. He couldn’t walk far and was almost wheelchair-bound. He was a totally different person than we knew for 21 years.”
