A Geraldton woman whose son’s organs were donated after a tragic bike accident this year has received a thankyou letter from a recipient in the Eastern States.
In late January Maureen Ledger’s son Wayne fell off his bicycle while riding without a helmet in Rockingham.
The 45-year-old suffered brain damage and bleeding on the brain, and was flown to Fremantle Hospital where he remained on life support for two days.
It was then his family made the painful decision to turn off life support and donate his organs.
Mrs Ledger later found out Wayne’s heart went to a Perth woman in her late 30s and his liver to a Perth man.
Both kidneys went to two women in the Eastern States.
The letter, which arrived recently, was from a mother of two and was forwarded to Mrs Ledger via organ donation co-ordinating group, DonateLife.
The woman was a recipient of one of Wayne’s kidneys.
