Phillip and Tony all set to 'Run for Life', Ireland

Wicklow People | Esther Hayden

TWO COUNTY WICKLOW athletes will be flying the flag for Wicklow in the Irish Kidney Association's ' Run for Life' in Dublin this Sunday.

Philip Kavanagh, from Arklow and Tony Gartland from Hacketstown on the Wicklow Carlow border are members of the Irish Transplant Games team which took part in the World Transplant Games in Sweden earlier this year.

Speaking in advance of ' Run for a Life', Philip Kavanagh said, 'Both Tony and myself look forward to taking part in this life saving awareness event which is suitable for people with varying levels of fitness who can walk, jog or run it. I hope that through our involvement in the Fun Run that we can help to increase organ donor awareness, highlight the plight of people with organ failure and celebrate life after transplantation.'

'Run for A Life' coincides with European Day for Organ Donation and Transplantation, held in Geneva on the previous day. The European campaign aims to highlight the increasing need for organ transplants across all Europe.
