Apple to have top execs at Jobs memorial next week
Apple invitations obtained late Friday have uncovered plans for a private memorial for the late Steve Jobs. Stanford University, the host of Jobs' now famous "stay hungry, stay foolish" commencement speech, is said by the WSJ to be host to an event on October 16. "Silicon Valley luminaries" and close associates of Jobs will attend, guests said.
The company confirmed the event later and reiterated that it was a private event. Its gathering will come just three days before an internal Apple memorial on October 19.
Jobs' widow Laurene is believed to have orchestrated the event as RSVPs were due for the Emerson Collective, a non-profit established by Mrs. Jobs.
Calls have have been made for a public service, but Apple and the Jobs family have so far preferred to keep grieving private. Apple has been more welcoming to impromptu store memorials and other public tributes.
