This month, it was announced that floral portriats of 72 organ and tissue donors will adorn the Donate Life Rose Parade® Float on Jan. 2, 2012. The heroes, representing 31 states and four countries, will be featured in timepieces on the float entitled “…One More Day.”
Jeremy Doyle of Chillicothe, who gave the “Gift of Life” after his death in September 1998, is among those honored on the float.
As a result of Jeremy’s donation, four lives were saved and two people received the gift of sight.
”It makes me feel good to know that he’s helped somebody else,” said Kelley Deavers, Jeremy’s mother. “I’m excited because I do really want to meet all of his recipients one day.”
A father of two in West Virginia received Jeremy’s heart; the gift allowed him to live a normal life and rekindle his love of hunting, fishing and motorcycling, all of which Jeremy enjoyed as well.
Following Jeremy’s funeral, many family members and friends signed up in the Ohio Donor Registry. His family actively shares his story through Lifeline of Ohio to promote the Donate Life message in his memory.
Kelley and her husband, Ray, will travel to Pasadena, Calif. to help decorate the Donate Life Float and see Jeremy’s floragraph in The Rose Parade®.
“It’s a major honor to have our son on the float and to be able to share this experience with other donor families and recipients,” said Kelley.
You can see Jeremy’s floragraph on the Donate Life Float in The Rose Parade® on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012 at 11 EST. Check your local listings!
