Big jump in number signing organ donor cards - Israel

Jerusalem Post | Judy Siegel-Itzkovich

Some 11,000 potential organ donors registered with Adi, the National Transplant Coordination Center during the past few weeks following a public information campaignto sign up before the end of 2011. It brought the total to 640,000 registered with Adi.

According to new regulations, people who register before the end of December are entitled to priority - along with their immediate family - in getting a donor organ themselves if they need one and it is available. Anyone who signs on after that date will have to wait three whole years until eligible for such a benefit.

The information campaign included posters on public buses around the country. Representatives of Adi manned tables in railroad stations used Israel Defense Forces soldiers, at all Azrieli shopping malls, Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, Aroma cafes and other locations, as well as an Internet site (http://kartisadi.org.il).
