A Grand Rapids man, who became the first person to receive a heart transplant at a West Michigan hospital, is urging others to sign up for organ donation.
Rahn Bentley, 51, returned to Spectrum Health's Meijer Heart Center Friday, joining the doctor who performed his heart transplant.
Bentley announced a new campaign called "Red Heart Saturday", encouraging people to add the red heart organ donor sticker to their driver's licenses.
"You never know what's going to happen the next day. And the gift of life can do something great like it's done for me and my family," said Bentley.
Bentley has also started a foundation and written a book called "Off to See the Wizard". Some of the proceeds will go toward a college education for the donor's two children.
Donor Tim Korzen,44, died from Bacterial Meningitis the day after Thanksgiving, in 2010. The Ada Township father donated two kidneys, a liver, and his heart.
