The West Australia | Natasha Boddy
West Australians would be legally required to indicate whether they wanted to become an organ donor when applying for a driver's licence under proposed laws to be introduced to State Parliament this week.
Under the plan, adults will be unable to renew or apply for a driver's licence unless they complete an application form requiring them to tick a box indicating either that they believe they were already a registered organ donor, wanted to register on the Australian Organ Donor Register or did not want to consider the issue at the time.
The names of those willing to be organ donors will then be forwarded to a national register, but they will not automatically be registered based on their answer and they will still need to complete a registration form.
