The basketballs are everywhere. For the past 11 months, Dawn Futch’s world has been dominated by them.
They take up an entire back wall of her shop and people call about them continuously. Not that Futch minds one bit. She figures it’s what her son would have wanted.
Last Nov. 20, about a month shy of his 20th birthday, Michael-Gene Futch left the family business — Creative Cakes and Candies — on West New Haven Avenue to make a delivery. It was raining that day and the roads were slick. A few moments later there was an accident — his car had slammed into a telephone pole on Dairy Road.
