Teen committed to event's charity
No cause is dyed more deeply into the fabric of the SunTrust Richmond Marathon than that of organ and tissue donation, perhaps because Donate Life Virginia has been the event's designated charity for the past eight years.
The issue is important not only to race organizers, but to many participants, and this year to 14-year-old Nyasha Sprow of Woodbridge, the ceremonial starter of the HCA Virginia 8k.
Nyasha, the reigning Miss Virginia Junior Teen, wears her commitment to organ and tissue donation with poignant dignity. Two older sisters were donors when they died as youngsters. A brother, P.J., died two years ago at 22 while awaiting a kidney transplant.
