TYLER (KYTX) - Imagine spending your senior year of high school undergoing dialysis and tests at three different hospitals. To top that, you start your college career on a heart transplant wait list.
That's the story for one Tyler Junior College freshman. CBS 19's Amanda Roberson spoke with Alix Valdez about her diagnosis and how her peers are helping make a difference.
18-year-old Alix Valdez collapsed in her bedroom August 2010 just as she was beginning her senior year at Robert E. Lee High School. After months of tests, she was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy - meaning her heart chambers are unable to properly fill with blood because of stiffness in the heart. She was put on a heart transplant list November 12, 2010 and since then her faith and community are keeping her strong.
