(CNN) -- At least two people were killed when a medical helicopter crashed in Florida early Monday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and the Mayo Clinic.

The clinic said two of its employees who were on board the helicopter were killed in the crash. The fate of the third person aboard was not immediately known.

The clinic is "working internally to support the family and employees of those lost in this most unfortunate tragedy," the clinic said in a statement.

The clinic employees were headed to the University of Florida in Gainesville to harvest organs when the crash occurred, according to the statement.

FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the chopper crashed at approximately 5:23 a.m. ET about 12 miles northeast of Palatka, Florida, which is just east of Gainesville.

The helicopter was owned by SK Jets, according to the FAA. The company has not commented on the crash.
