Woonona's Brooke Huuskes will experience her first white Christmas almost 6km above sea level on one of the hottest continents on earth, in a bid to raise awareness of organ donation.
On Christmas Eve she hopes to reach the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro where, as well as unwrapping presents, she will also celebrate her 27th birthday.
Brooke has had a tumultuous two years. She received a kidney from her father in February 2010 only to almost lose it after suffering a blood infection seven months later.
Adrenalin had to be pumped into her heart to keep her alive.
She said the past two years had been a trying time that had taught her the importance of living life to the fullest.
"Had my dad not donated his kidney I would be on dialysis and ... while I'd survive, I wouldn't really live. I still get emotional when I think of what Dad did," she said.
