Float to Feature Iowa Organ Donor

WHO, Des Moines

ORGAN DONATION: A float in the Tournament of Roses parade will feature the image of an Iowan whose organs were donated after her untimely death in 2006.

A float in the Tournament of Roses parade on January 2nd will feature an Iowan's face.

Nancy and Guy Richardson visited the Iowa Donor Network in Johnston Monday. There, they decorated part a picture of their daughter, Nicole. She'll be among those featured on the Donate Life float. Richardson died at the age of 27 following an accident in April of 2006 in Colorado. Nicole's lungs, kidney, heart, pancreas, liver and corneas were donated to help the lives of seven others all over the world.

The most important thing is to have people understand in a very personal way what organ donation can mean to people that need organs and what means to the family and friend left behind," said Nancy Richardson.

Each year since Nicole's death, her parents have hosted a charity auction and golf tournament in Nicole's honor.

This year they raised $10,000 for the Iowa Donor Network.
