HUDSONVILLE — Twenty years to the day after Eric Helm was born, his family and friends will gather Saturday to honor his memory and create a special tribute to him: a floral portrait that will appear in a Rose Bowl parade float.
It won’t be a private affair: Eric’s parents are inviting the public to a pancake breakfast to raise awareness about organ and tissue donations. They said they hope to inspire others to show the same spirit of kindness as their son, a Jenison High School senior who died two years ago in a car accident at the age of 18.
“He had a big heart,” said his mother, Kim Helm.
