Making case for saving lives

The Naperville Sun | Jane Donahue

Since Penny Bady and Alecia McClung were featured in March of this year, the women continue to share a unique bond — and mission with people in Illinois.

In March 2011, the women joined forces with Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White to promote “Life Goes On,” a campaign to raise awareness for organ and tissue registration. Along with making an appearance at Aurora’s driver facility, their story became part of a countertop display there.

“Knowing that I gave the gift of life to Alecia, I can’t express what that is like,” said Bady of Chicago. “It was a tragic situation, but I was fighting my pain with power. That’s a good feeling.”

The tragic situation occurred Dec. 12, 2003, when Bady’s son Maurice Brown Jr. was shot to death near their Chicago home. Alecia McClung of Naperville received a kidney transplant after Bady decided to donate her son’s organs.
