Parents of fatally injured Clifton boy call donated organs 'beautiful gift for someone else'

North Jersey | Matthew Malysa

CLIFTON — The parents of a 9-year-old city boy fatally injured by a car said Friday they decided to donate their son’s organs as living memorials to him.

Jonathan Nowinski who dreamed of one day becoming a police officer, died Wednesday night, more than two weeks after he was struck by a car while walking home from a religious class. He was pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, where he had been fighting for his life.

His parents, Marek and Kasia Nowinski of Speer Avenue, said Jonathan’s organs, including his heart, have been donated to recipients in need.

“We donated his heart — we believe that he will still be alive in the recipient,” said the grief-stricken mother, who described a boy full of life and passionate about music.

“I believe this can be a beautiful gift for someone else,” said Kasia Nowinska.
