SHARONVILLE — Jovante Woods, the former Princeton High School football star and honor student, will be one of 72 international organ and tissue donors whose images will be presented on the Donate Life float in the 2012 Rose Parade.
Elbert “Ickey” Woods and Chandra Baldwin-Woods, Jovante’s parents, will be two of the 28 riders on the “One More Day” float in the parade Jan. 2 in Pasadena, Calif. Jovante died in August 2010 following an asthmas attack at his home.
Woods, Baldwin, family members and supporters will gather Thursday afternoon at Princeton High School to make the final floral and decorative additions to portrait of Jovante, which will be shipped to Pasadena and placed on the float.
“To have Jovante be honored with a floragraph in the Donate Life Rose Bowl Parade float means so much to me,’’ Baldwin-Woods said. “His dad and I are both from California, so we have the opportunity to celebrate Jovante’s life with other donor families and have our family be a part of this moving experience. This recognition confirms that our son definitely made the right decision by donating his organs and tissues to help save the lives of others. I am so proud of Jovante.”
