SAN BERNARDINO - A tree was dedicated Saturday at Anne Shirrells Park in the memory of 6-year-old Amarion Adams, who died last year after being struck by gunfire while playing in his front yard.
A couple dozen family and community members braved cold winds to dedicate the young magnolia tree, which was planted last December along the park's Memorial Tree Walkway.
A stone marker, bearing Amarion's name and the message, "Gone but never forgotten," was donated by Mt. View Mortuary and Cemetery in San Bernardino.
Those who attended the dedication ceremony heard positive messages from Pastor Buck Bryant, of Burning Bridge Baptist Missionary Church, Bible readings and songs, such "Amazing Grace" and "I shall not be moved."
"God has a way of bringing all his children together," Bryant said.
Several adults and children wore T-shirts bearing a photo of Amarion's smiling face.
Bryant talked about there is still room to rejoice, as Amarion's organs helped four other children enjoy happy, healthy lives.
