Virgin Boss Richard Branson back Wales' Opt-Out organ donation plans

Sir Richard Branson has thrown his weight behind Wales’ bid to change the organ donation law.

The entrepreneur and founder of Virgin has urged the rest of the UK to follow Wales’ lead as he spoke about his support for an opt-out system.

“Well done Wales,” he said. “May Scotland and England follow promptly so even more lives can be saved.”

Sir Richard’s comments come as the Welsh Government is consulting on proposals to introduce a so-called soft system of presumed consent.

It is hoped a move to such a system will increase the number of organs for donation and end the spectre of patients dying while on the transplant list.
