Buenos Aires, 10 Jan 2012 (EFE) .- Argentina last year recorded a new record for organ donation, with a total of 604 actual donors that allowed 1376 people to receive a transplant, officials said.
According to a Central Unique National Institute Coordinator of Ablation andImplant (INCUCAI) under the Ministry of Health, Argentina in 2011 reached a rate of 15.1 donors per million inhabitants, which ranks him "to the forefront region in terms of donation. "
Of the total number of transplants performed last year, 901 were kidney, 321 liver, 101 heart, 25 lung, 9 pancreatic, 4 and 15 intestinal transplants combined.
Also materialized and 931 corneal transplants were performed 68 transplants of hematopoietic stem cells (CPH) with unrelated donor.
"The more you grow transplants and actual donors, the greater is our commitment to the issue, because the health challenge is to reduce every day the waiting list of patients who need an organ to improve their quality of life and directly save it" said Minister of Health of Argentina, Juan Manzur.
