"The support means so much, it lets us know how much Jovante meant to everybody," Chandra Woods, Jovante's mother. "It's just overwhelming."
On August 14, 2010, Jovante Woods passed away, three days after suffering a severe asthma attack. Woods was outstanding in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA, and was a stand out on the football field, playing cornerback for Princeton High School. On top of that, Jovante was an organ donor.
"He was able to save four lives with his organs, and help countless others with his tissues," said Ickey Woods, Jovante's father and former Bengal player.
On Friday night, The Jovante Woods Foundation held the first annual Jovante Woods Birthday Bowl-a-rama. The foundation is focused on advancing asthma awareness, promoting organ donations and education. The foundation has partnered with Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
"We can go out and bring a spotlight on the fact that asthma is very serious in our community," said Tori Aimes, community engagement manager at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. "More than 9-million children across the country have asthma. Many of them, despite what people think don't grow out of asthma."
