Church leaders unite in opposition to presumed consent for organ donation in Wales

Church leaders have united in opposition to controversial plans to make Wales the first part of the UK to move to an opt-out system for organ donation.

In a joint response to the Welsh Government’s plans to introduce a system of presumed consent, the Church in Wales, the Catholic Church and the Wales Eastern Orthodox Mission today said the proposal could “alienate” potential donors.

And the inter-faith alliance has criticised the government’s White Paper for presenting the “ill-judged” switch to presumed consent as a “fait accompli”.


Their official reaction to the proposal comes just eight days before the consultation on presumed consent ends.
