Family mourns car crash victim Stephanie Bedford

Cairns News | Australia | Cait Bester

HEARTBROKEN mother Eileen Bedford has told of her pride in her daughter Stephanie who, after her tragic death on Wednesday, has given four strangers a second chance at life.
As a teenager, Stephanie made it clear to her Cairns family she wanted to be an organ donor. Just 24 hours after 23-year-old Stephanie died in hospital from the severe injuries she sustained in a single-vehicle crash at Brinsmead, her heart, liver, kidneys and pancreas were given to transplant patients.
"While we’re trying to come to terms with this tragedy, we’ve found great comfort in knowing that Steph has saved four lives today," Ms Bedford told The Cairns Post yesterday.
"Knowing she has saved four lives is something positive that has come out of this terrible tragedy."
Stephanie 23, passed away on Wednesday with family by her bedside at hospital.
Her death came after it was confirmed she would not recover from the injuries sustained in the crash at 12.10am on Tuesday.
The car which she was driving hit two power poles and a tree before rolling down an embankment near Brinsmead Rd, on the Western Arterial Rd. A male passenger, 28, from Adelaide, freed himself and suffered minor injuries.
Family and friends of Stephanie have rallied together to remember a "beautiful, bright and bubbly person who loved life".
"We’ve received so many beautiful messages and most of Steph’s friends have described Steph as a shining star and that sums up her personality," Ms Bedford said.
