Film focus on organ donors

Parramatta Advertiser | Di Bartok

ACTOR Alex Haddad joined other organ recipients sharing their experiences with emerging filmmakers in Parramatta at the weekend.

The Fat Pizza star, who received a liver transplant 10 years ago, joined lesser-known organ recipients and donor families to help young filmmakers prepare for an Organ and Tissue Authority competition.

The FilmLife Project is aimed at raising awareness on organ donation. It involves emerging film-makers aged 16-35 years competing for a prize pool of $10,000.

The filmmakers will make five-minute films on organ donation, from the viewpoint of recipients or families of donors.

On Saturday and Sunday at ICE (Information and Cultural Exchange) studios in Parramatta, potential filmmakers took part in workshops run by film director Benjamin Rose on how to research, shoot and produce their films. One of those taking part was Jess Sparks, who had a double lung transplant two years ago at the age of 17.
