Hospital ICU Manager Honored by Gift of Life Michigan

MI News 26 | Amanda MacKenzie

Jerry Huron, RN, has received Gift of Life Michigan’s 2011 Professional Service Award.

In addition to his duties as ICU Manager of Munson Medical Center, Huron also acts as liaison to Gift of Life Michigan. In this capacity, he helps to save lives far beyond the hospital. In the past five years, Huron has helped provide 47 organs and 97 tissue grafts for transplant, including four life-saving organs as recently as December 2011 .

Although honored, Huron is the first to acknowledge that what he does is part of a true team effort. In his statement, he remarked that his work is part of “an effort that involves our ER, the operating room, pharmacy, lab, and other units at the hospital.” He went on to state that he “[has] great support from the team here as well as Gift of Life, and families of patients who generously give to others at a difficult time in their own lives.”

Gift of Life Michigan reports that 3000 people in our state and 110,000 people nationwide are waiting for an organ. Each organ donor’s gift can save up to eight lives. Individuals that want to register as organ donors can do so at any Secretary of State branch, calling 1-800-482-4881 or going online to www.giftoflifemichigan.org.
