AMELIA Morgan is infectiously happy, but at six even she knows her life depends on a family's sadness.
The only documented Australian child with chronic liver disease with portopulmonary hypertension, the Melbourne girl was born with biliary atresia, a bile duct blockage.
An early operation extended her old liver's longevity, until now.
Her dad Peter Morgan said it was only when she fainted twice last year - falling to the ground and going blue in one heartbreaking instance - that they realised the pressure her liver was putting on her heart.
Without a new organ, her heart will fail.
"She looks like a perfectly normal, healthy child, but she is one of the sickest in Australia," Mr Morgan said.
