Local toddler tops list for kidney transplant, Kansas City

Three year-old Larry Ellison has been a fighter since the day he was born. The Chanute boy suffers from end-stage renal disease, which is a progressive and permanent shut down of the kidneys. As a result, his quality of life is limited to a wheelchair, a diet of baby formula, soft foods and limited speaking ability.

“There’s not a day that goes by that he’s not happy, though,” said mother D’Eva. “It’s taxing on everyone but to see him smile everyday keeps us motivated to push forward with the hope that one day he’ll be over this.”

Larry’s condition will require a kidney transplant but D’Eva received some welcomed news last week that a transplant might soon be in the works. “On Jan. 4, we were notified that Larry was at the top of the list for a kidney transplant,” she said.
