Heart flies out of cooler, but doctors still able to perform successful procedure
It was a heart-stopping accident, but it had a happy ending.
A medic rushing to deliver a heart for transplant at a Mexico City hospital stumbled getting out of a helicopter and dropped the organ onto the street.
Police said they used the helicopter as part of “a rapid, precision maneuver” to deliver the plastic-wrapped heart, but the medic’s misstep sent it flying out of a cooler.
The medic placed the organ back in the cooler and authorities delivered it to the hospital, Mexican health officials said.
