The Star-Ledger | Mile Lamberti
On the surface, Mike Markey approaches life in a rather mundane manner. A physical education teacher and assistant football and wrestling coach at West Essex High School, Markey does what so many others accomplish routinely.
He wakes up, goes to work, influences young lives in the classroom and athletic venue and heads home after a seemingly fulfilling day. A health and fitness nut, the 29-year-old Caldwell native could easily be confused with someone 10 years his junior. Handsome and charismatic, he appears to be the picture of health.
No big deal, right? And for many, it isn't. Life has a funny way, at times, to provide a level of stability that says routine can be dull, and where's the action?
That's not the case with Markey, the poster boy, if you will for the cliché 'life is a gift.'
