Neenah woman facing multi-organ transplant

Appleton Post Crescent | Michael King

When Ben and Nikki LeFebre of Neenah were married in October, everyone enjoyed a buffet dinner after the nuptials — except the bride.

"She couldn't even eat any of her own cake," said Nikki's mom, Jackie Miller of Menasha.

For more than three years, Nikki has received all of her daily nutrition and hydration through a tube while she battles digestive tract paralysis.

Her life-threatening condition has taken the young couple on a roller-coaster journey that now has them living temporarily in Indianapolis while she awaits a multi-organ transplant.

After months of testing, evaluation, counseling and mounds of paperwork, Nikki, 24, learned Tuesday that she has been approved by her insurance company for a transplant of the stomach, pancreas, and small and large intestines. Pending final blood tests on Friday, she will be placed on the transplant waiting list next week at the IU Health transplant center.
