ONSLOW - Andrew Woods didn't hesitate when it came to donating one of his kidneys to his sister-in-law.
Woods, a 25-year-old from Onslow, was a perfect match for Angela, who needed a transplant of the organ for the second time in her life.
"A number of people stepped forward to be a donor and we thought my brother, Jamie, would be the right candidate," said Woods, adding a cancerous tumour was found in his brother's stomach, which ruled him out as a donor and resulted in him losing his stomach.
"Following that, I realized I hadn't been tested so I thought I would. I have my donor card, but have had no reason to think about (being a donor) before."
Woods said the process was a bit of an "ordeal" as Angela lives in Alberta. He spent about six weeks with his family out west, going through tests to make sure he was compatible.
"I had to get my blood tested, and make sure we had similar DNA and antibodies," he said.
When he realized he was a match, he knew right away he needed to be Angela's donor.
