Organ donation was at a record high in Arizona last year

Arizona Daily Star | Stephanie Innes

Arizonans saved 477 lives through organ donation in 2011.

The Donor Network of Arizona says 168 Arizonans donated organs last year - a record high.

Tissue donations also surpassed the highest number previously set with more than 1,150 people donating tissue, while more than 900 people donated corneas.

The donations gave mobility and sight to thousands.

“Arizonans gave life and healing to others in record numbers in 2011,” said Tim Brown, the CEO of the Donor Network of Arizona, which is the the federally-designated, nonprofit organ recovery organization in Arizona.

“We now call on everyone in Arizona who wants to save people like those who compassionately gave last year to show their support by registering as organ, cornea and tissue donors today at DonateLifeAZ.org.”
