While there are many who feel that organ donation must be promoted, there are not many people registered for the same. It is necessary that such steps are being taken which can change one’s life forever. On the occasion of DonateLife Week, which kicked on February 19 and would go on till 26, it is being said that more and more people should come forward to be part of the noble cause.
If a recent from the Australia and New Zealand Organ Donation Registry is to be referred to, there are as many as 79% Australians who are willing to be part of such noble cause, however, families most of the time don’t agree to go for the same.
There are lingering concerns as far as family’s consent is concerned which would make it quite clear that there have to be some sort of solution derived out. “NSW can improve organ donation to seriously ill people and we can do this by talking to family and finding out information”, said Kerry McKay from the NSW Organ and Tissue Donation Service.
There are as many as 43% Australians who are not aware if their loved one’s had some wish of organ donation or not. It is quite difficult for families to take such decisions while they are grieving their personal loss. It is necessary for people to let their families know their last wishes before they die.
It could change someone’s life forever and this is what one would love to do. Though there were as many as 337 people in 2011 who donated their organs, but there is still lot to be done to improve the donation rate in the time to come.
While many would be sharing their stories about organ and tissue donation during this year’s DonateLife Week, it would be good if one can extend their efforts towards saving one’s life.
