LifeSouth, Five Points of Life save countless number of lives

Gainesville Sun | Hannah Winston

Here are three stories affected by receiving, giving donations

Most people know it's the right thing to do, but sometimes it takes a brush with disaster to remind us that we all have the gift of life coursing through our veins.

About 1,200 people are expected to take to Gainesville roadways Feb. 18-19 in the Five Points of Life Race sponsored by LifeSouth Community Blood Centers to help raise awareness for the need for the five types of donations: blood, bone marrow, organ, apheresis and cord blood.

Thousands run or go out to cheer and donate blood every year because they have been touched in one way or another by someone else's willingness to give. Some have stories of hope. Some hold painful memories.

Here are three of those stories.
